Irish Stout Beef & Cabbage Stir-Fry Irish Stout Beef & Cabbage Stir-Fry
Hearty stout beer lends robust flavor to this stir-fry spin on classic Irish fare. Honey cuts the bitterness in the beer. Taste the sauce and add a little more honey if needed to reach the right balance for you.
SERVES: 4
PREP TIME: 20 Minutes
COOK TIME: 20 Minutes
Ingredients

12 ounces extra-stout beer
2 to 3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon brown mustard
1 teaspoon McCormick Caraway Seed, crushed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon McCormick Black Pepper, Coarse Ground
8 1-inch wedges cabbage
1 cup peeled baby carrots, cut in 1/2-inch chunks
4 tablespoons water, divied
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound beef top sirloin steak, cut into 3/4-inch thick pieces
1 small onion, halved and thinly sliced
1 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Fresh Italian parsley leaves (optional)

Directions
Step 1  Step 1:
In a medium bowl, whisk together beer, honey, tomato paste, mustard, caraway seed, salt and pepper; set aside.

Step 2  Step 2:
Place cabbage and carrots in a 2-quart baking dish; add 2 tablespoons water. Microwave, covered, on High for 8 to 10 minutes or until crisp-tender, stirring once. Set aside; keep warm.

Step 3  Step 3:
Meanwhile, heat oil in a very large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef; cook, stirring frequently, 3 to 4 minutes or until just slightly pink in the center. Remove beef from pan; keep warm.

Step 4  Step 4:
Add onions to pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 4 to 5 minutes or until tender. Pour beer mixture mixture into pan. In a small bowl, stir together the remaining 2 tablespoons water and flour; stir into onion and beer mixture. Return beef to pan; cook and stir 3 minutes or until bubbling.

Step 5  Step 5:
Serve beef mixture with cabbage wedges and carrots. Sprinkle with parsley, if desired.
